Overall design philosophy

NetBox is developed using a few simple principles. It does not aim to cover every possible situation however, its overall value does cover most parts of a complete DCIM system.

REPLICATE THE REAL WORLD

Information captured into the system needs to represent and be as close as possible to the real world to ensure that the data is accurate and makes sense to those who view it.

SERVE AS THE SOURCE OF TRUTH

NetBox must be considered the final representation of all the data and the only trusted source within the environment. Accurate information inputed provides exponentially better information out.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

NetBox operates on the 80/20 rule. Support 80% of the required features to maintain a simple system to manage and use. As it supports a well-documented API, additional custom functionality can be added through a development process.

HUMAN REVIEW OF DATA INPUT

Data captured is purposely not automated to allow for confirmation and verification. One is discouraged in automating the input of data unless it is 100% verified since NetBox will be the defacto source of all data available.
